Stories Around Us

Who is the prettiest of them all?

Mirror, Mirror on the wall,
Who is the prettiest of them all?
Is 36-24-36 fair tall the norm?
Or is does it have to be an elegant charm?

The glamour seems to have moved from the ramps to the streets. Fresh faces on the modeling circuit are high street, literally. Be it the tea seller from Pakistan who is now tweeting with SRK or the vegetable seller in Nepal who has become an internet sweetheart. In light of the recent internet discoveries, we thought it would be interesting to celebrate the beauty hidden in people around us.

First up we have a picture by Aparna Jayakumar, a photographer from Mumbai now based in Doha. She worked on a project called “A Few Good Men” where she prowled the streets of Bombay looking for the city’s most good-looking men. We then turned to the shutter bugs in our gang for support and the results were fascinating.

Curating the pictures for this blog made us question the idea of beauty and the conventions that the cosmetic giants dictate. Why should our idea of beauty only be limited to the page 3s’ and glossy prints of scented magazines? Why not look around and find beauty in all walks of life?

As Plato rightly said, “Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.” PREACH!

Special thanks to Aparna Jayakumar
